# Question 2
If elected what would you do to encourage cycling in Southampton?
Harmeet BRAR (The Conservative Party) | A response has been submitted on behalf of all Conservative Party candidates by the group spokesperson for Environment and Transport, Councillor Steven Galton. |
Angela COTTON (Green Party) | I will push to ensure that cycling provision is properly included in all new road developments and that there is genuine consultation with cyclist groups including SCC. We also need cycle infrastructure improvements on existing routes and I will try to ensure these are included in future plans. Where changes can be made without major infrastructure changes, eg to traffic priorities I will try to ensure these are carried out. I would also support cycle training to encourage new users to get on their bikes, and would try to liaise with schools and big employers in the city to help them encourage people to switch from cars to cycles. I support introduction of 20mph on residential roads to improve safety for both pedestrians and cyclists. |
