Sun 17th April: Ride to Twyford

The next Campaign ride is a circular route north from Lakeside encompassing Compton, Shawford and Twyford and takes place on Sunday 17th April.
Assemble: from 9.45am at Lakeside cafe, Eastleigh for a prompt 10am departure
Route in brief: off-road path through Eastleigh, Boyatt Lane, NCN24 through Otterbourne, bridleway to Compton, bridleway under motorway and railway, south to Shawford, Shawford Road, Queen Street. Return via Hazely Rd, Watley Lane (bridleway) to Hensting Lane, Nob’s Crook, Church Lane, Bishopstoke Lane, Bishopstoke Rd, quiet roads through Eastleigh back to Lakeside.
Terrain: mix of off-road tarmac paths, bridleways, rural roads and quiet urban roads. Undulating terrain; short steep hill just south of Twyford. Suitable for all bicycles – there is a road alternative (Mares Lane) to the only rough bridleway (Watley Lane). 18 miles
Coffee and Cake stop: The Bugle pub in Twyford.
Weather: sunny intervals and moderate breeze (BBC)
An easy ride with long traffic-free stretches taking in pretty villages and picturesque views of the Itchen.
