Sunday 17th October: Test Valley circular ride
The Campaign ride on Sunday 17th October will be a circular route in the Test Valley taking in Michelmersh, Mottisfont and Romsey.
Start: The Four Horseshoes PH, Nursling Street. Assemble from 9.45am for a 10am departure. Return around 1.30pm
Route: Nursling Street, Horns Drove, Rownhams Lane, Highwood Lane, Halterworth Lane, School Rd, Braishfield Rd, Kiln Lane, Rudd Lane, Mesh Rd, Mottisfont, Dunbridge Lane, Kimbridge Lane, Timsbury cycle path, Belbins, canal-side cycle path to Romsey, cycle path alongside A27 to Lee Lane, Dairy Lane. Approx 22 miles
Terrain: Quiet lanes and off-road paths; very short section on Winchester Rd between Halterworth Lane and School Rd; suitable for all bikes. North of Romsey is quite hilly; between Nursling and Romsey fairly flat.
Coffee and cake stop: Kimbridge Barn cafe, Kimbridge Lane.
This is a new route for Campaign rides although most of you are probably familiar with the roads in the Test Vally north of Romsey. We have had a request for a ride to Kings Sombourne but this is slightly further that we normally cycle on a Sunday morning. If this ride goes well and we easily manage in a morning, we might consider attempting Kings Sombourne. An alternative would be to plan a more leisurely ride to K S next summer, stopping for lunch at the pub.
Beautiful countryside, quiet roads and a chance to try the newly completed cycle path from Romsey to Lee Lane; hope to see some of you there.
