Campaign ride: Brummell Bummel 21st May 10 am All day ride
Brummell Bummel 21st May 10 am. All day ride, lunch at the Black Horse West Tytherly
This coming Sunday will be the annual ride in memory of Mark Brummell, one of our members who was killed when out on a bike ride at Ipley Cross in the N F. For the first few years we followed a route which included Ipley Cross but two years ago we decided to introduce some variety and we now organise a ride in other areas we know Mark enjoyed cycling in. After two rides to Kings Sombourne, this year we have a new destination – West Tytherly. The route suggested by John Heath is perfect; quiet lanes, beautiful views, lovely venues for coffee and lunch.
Start: meet at the Four Horseshoes, Nursling St, from 9.45 am.
Terrain: some hills, gravel track (bridleway) through Moorcourt Farm. Suitable for all bikes; for road bikes, a v short section of the bridleway through the farmyard can be walked.
Route in brief: Dairy Lane, Lee Lane, Moorcourt Fm, Ridge Lane, Gardiners Lane, Ryedown Lane, Woodington Rd, Dandy’s Ford, Lockerly, East Dean Rd, Frenchmoor Rd, continuing north to West Tytherly.
Coffee at Dandy’s Ford, lunch at the Black Horse.
Return: to be agreed; we can return by same route or via Dunbridge (option of catching a train back to Southampton) and Romsey.
Please let me know if you would like lunch at the Black Horse so that I can give the landlord approximate numbers in advance. He is OK for anyone who would prefer to bring sandwiches to eat them in the pub garden.
This is a ride for everyone, not just friends of Mark, so please do come along if you are free on 21st May.
