Some were disappointed to miss the ride to Stokes Bay 3 wks ago and, as there is no ride in the programme for the 3rd Sunday in September (18th), it has been agreed to have another ride using a similar route. We will not go as far as Stokes Bay, as this was a little further than the Campaign’s usual 20 m; we will instead stop for coffee at Titchfield Haven and return from here via NCN2. Eric will lead us on an alternative route through Whitely, using off-road cycle paths.
Meet from 9.45 am at Netley Station for a prompt 10 am departure. There is a train leaving Southampton Central at 9.35 am which stops at St Denys, Bitterne, Woolston, Sholing and Netley. From here we will take a route through Bursledon, over Swanick Bridge, through Whitely, across the A27 just north of Titchfield, through Titchfield Village and Posgrove Lane south to Titchfield Haven. Return along the coast via NCN2 and the pink ferry (£1.75).
Suitable for all bikes although be aware that there are some gravel tracks. Mainly quiet roads and off-road paths; very hilly through Bursledon on way out; otherwise mainly flat.
Weather predicted to be dry. Coffee and cake stop at the Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve Visitor Centre.
Return approximately 1.30 pm
