Campaign Ride: Saturday, 10th September
Our ride this month is on a Saturday, to mark Ride and Stride fundraising day for historic Churches – on 10 September. Starting from the Four Horseshoes pub, Nursling at 10 am, the 32 miles circular route goes through Rownhams, North Baddesley, Ampfield, Braishfield, Eldon, Kings Somborne, Mottisfont, Lockerley and Romsey. Lunch will be at the Crown Inn, Kings Somborne and we should be back by around 4pm. Please note that, although we will be using quiet country roads for the most part (also taking in tracks such as the Test Way), some busy roads and tricky junctions are unavoidable and will require a minimum level of cycling confidence. There are a few hills, though generally fairly gentle ones. We will be riding at a leisurely pace and making many stops en route. Most of the churches are worth visiting, some of them have toilets and some will be providing refreshments to Riders and Striders. I will be making a donation to the Historic Churches Preservation Trust and you are welcome to join me, if you so wish, but the ride is of course free to all. If the weather looks as if it will be very wet on the day, ring me on 07857 156416 to check what the plans are. If you are planning on coming to the pub for lunch, please e-mail me so I can book some tables.
