Campaign ride to Carlo’s and New Forest: Sunday 20th November

bikesThe next Campaign ride will take place on 20th November, leaving the Four Horseshoes at Nursling at 10 am.  A delightful circular route up the Test Valley to Carlo’s then south to the New Forest and returning via Winsor and Test Valley Lakes.  Return around 1 pm.

Meet:  9.45 am at the Four Horseshoes, Nursling Street

Terrain: some tracks (Moorcourt Farm bridleway  forest tracks and gravel track though Testwood Lakes); quiet roads.  Suitable for hybrid and mountain bikes.  Hilly up to Carlo’s, otherwise fairly flat.

Coffee and cake stop:  Carlo’s

Route in brief:  Dairy Lane, Lee Lane, Moorcourt Farm, Ridge Lane, Gardeners Lane, Ryedown Lane, through West Wellow, straight across the Salisbury Rd, Canada Common, Furzley Rd to Newbridge, Newbridge Rd, Pollards Moor Rd, Winsor Rd, Loperwood, Testwood Lakes, Mill Lane, Station Rd, Dairy Lane.

Weather:  predicted to be cloudy with showers, but don’t let this put you off; if heavy rain the ride will be shortened.

Brilliant news:  we will no longer have to lift our bikes over the stile to get from Testwood Lakes to Mill Lane as it has been replaced with a latch gate.  I have asked for this at the Test Valley Bug on several occasions and Adriane and I were very pleased to use the new gate when risk assessing the ride last week – and a simple latch gate, so much easier than a kissing gate.   A great benefit for parents with pushchairs, disability vehicles and elderly people as well as cyclists.  I will email Vivien Messenger (Test Valley Transport Planner) to express  thanks on behalf of the Cycling Campaign.

Regards,

Lindsi
