Lordswood Lane public enquiry

This ancient route runs from Coxford Road in Lordswood along the ridge at the west of the Sports Centre to Chilworth at The Clump (recently renamed The Chilworth Arms) and the Chilworth Science Park.

Campaign members will know that the lane was designated as a public footpath, though historical and usage evidence are such that it should have been made, at least, a bridleway. The short section in Southampton City was re-classed as a restricted byway, while in 2013 Hants County Council Regulatory
Committee voted to upgrade the northern section as well.

There were objections to this upgrading and the issue will be the subject of a Public Inquiry. This will be held on Tuesday 8 March at The Ascension Centre, Thorold Road, Southampton. It is scheduled to last 4 days.

It would be helpful if Campaign members could attend the inquiry, even if they do no intend to speak. Those that have used the route in the past are urged to fill in an Lordswood Lane claim form.
