SUNDAY RIDES

Sunday 20th January
The next Campaign ride is somewhat unusual in that we will be visiting a historic building – the recently restored chapel at Royal Victoria Country Park.  I am told that it is well worth visiting and also going up the tower if the weather is fine.  It is free to visit but there is a small charge for the tower.
Meet:  Riverside Park, by Cobden Bridge from 9.45 am for a prompt 10 am departure.  Alternatively, Woolston Stn at 10.20 am

Route: Cobden Bridge, Boardwalk, stadium cycle route and continuing through Basepoint, Itchen Bridge, NCN route to Weston Shore, following the NCN route to RVCP.  Return Weston Shore, Swift Rd, Church Rd and Oak Rd (NCN route) on Sunday 20th to the Itchen Bridge, cycle path to Peartree Church, Peartree Green, Gainsford Rd, Athlestan Rd, over railway line to Quayside Rd, boardwalk, Cobden Bridge, Riverside Park.  Return to park around 1 pm.  15 miles approximately.
Terrain:  quiet roads, cycle paths – tarmac and gravel; busy roads over the bridges but cycle paths on both.  Some hills.
Coffee stop:  anticipated arrival at the chapel is 11 am so we will have an hour here to look around and have coffee.  However, the coffee shop is fairly small and we can decide on the day whether to split into two groups for coffee or to have coffee after our visit at the spacious cafe in the park.

  1. Wayne Palmer says:

    Hi, can anyone advise if off road tyres will be required for the wheels around Winchester ride on the 5th October please.

    Thanks

    Wayne.

  2. dht says:

    @Wayne Palmer
    Hi Wayne,
    The ride leader recommends hybrid or mountain bikes. So wider tyres with some tread would be best, but no need for suspension forks. Not suitable for road bikes with narrow tyres.
    Regards,
    David

  3. Emily says:

    Thanks, Emily

  4. dht says:

    Hi Emily,
    No registration required, just turn up at the start location/time.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi, can u tell me where the meeting point is as I don’t know the Riverside park? Can u give a brief description of the route as I’m not good with very steep hills! thx E

  6. Peter Court says:

    Where does the BRUMMEL BUMMEL start and finish, please? Distance? On road or off road?

  7. dht says:

    The details of this year’s Brummel Bummel are yet to finalised. It’s likely to be a new route; possibly the Test valley, as it was a favoured cycling area for Mark. There is a Campaign meeting on Monday where we hope to make a final decision and the website will be updated soon after.

  8. Nigel says:

    @dht
    Any further news?
    CTC has already announced this ride to Kings Somborne but I’d prefer to cycle the SCC version. Is it going to Kings Somborne? Where/when is the start?

  9. dht says:

    @Nigel

    Hi Nigel,
    Information about the Brummel Bummel is now available on the Southampton Cycling Campaign website.
    Regards,
    David

  10. reena says:

    hi – the ride on the 15th meeting at cowheards – how long is it? Not sure if I can keep up as i am not very fast or experienced.

  11. dht says:

    @reena
    The ride leader is very experienced and the group will all cycle together, nobody will be left behind. The ride should be less than 15 miles. If you email Lindsi Bluemel (lindsibluemel@hotmail.co.uk) then she will be able to give you more detailed information about the ride.

  12. Morny says:

    When next the upcoming riding campaign is about to happen! Could you please let me know? I missed both the above mentioned dates to join in for cycle ride.

    Although I’ve bike ride around MANOR FARM COUNTRY PARK before, but riding with campaigners is a great fun.

  13. Lyn Brayshaw says:

    Cargo/family bike rides coming up – Sat 21st Jan, then 21st or 23rd Feb (half term)…and monthly. See f b Southampton Cargo Bicycles. All welcome!
