Sunday 30th September Eling to Lepe

We are having an extra Southampton Cycling Campaign Ride from Eling  to Lepe and back, led by Yusuf on Sunday 30 September, starting at 9:30am. Please note the start time is half an hour earlier than our usual 10am start.
The ride is mostly along country lanes and cycle tracks. It is fairly flat although there are a few hills e.g. out of Beaulieu toward Exbury. Our route from Eling takes us via Marchwood (using the cycle path), Twiggs Lane past Ipley Crossroads, Beaulieu, and Exbury (past Exbury Gardens) to the coast and then on to Lepe Country Park where we can enjoy views of the Isle of Wight. On our return from Lepe, we will take Lepe Road and head back towards Southampton via Langley, Blackfield and Dibden, dropping into Applemore and picking up the bike path back to Eling.
The route is 29 miles long and will be at an easy pace suitable for all. There will be a morning coffee stop/comfort break at Beaulieu and lunch at the brand new Lepe Country Park cafe. The riding time is estimated at between 3 and a half to 4 hours and a return time around 4pm (depending on how long we stop at Lepe).
The start point is the car park at the bottom of Eling Hill, below the Church, just the other side of Eling causeway from the Tide Mill.

Sunday 21st October – Nursling (The Four Horseshoes) to Dandy’s Ford (New forest)

Sunday 18th November – Eastleigh Station to Owlesbury

Hi, can anyone advise if off road tyres will be required for the wheels around Winchester ride on the 5th October please.

  2. dht says:

    @Wayne Palmer
    Hi Wayne,
The ride leader recommends hybrid or mountain bikes. So wider tyres with some tread would be best, but no need for suspension forks. Not suitable for road bikes with narrow tyres.

I have not cycled with this group before, is there anything I have to register to or can I just turn up on they day of one of the events?

    Thanks, Emily

  6. Peter Court says:

Where does the BRUMMEL BUMMEL start and finish, please? Distance? On road or off road?

  7. dht says:

The details of this year’s Brummel Bummel are yet to finalised. It’s likely to be a new route; possibly the Test valley, as it was a favoured cycling area for Mark. There is a Campaign meeting on Monday where we hope to make a final decision and the website will be updated soon after.

  8. Nigel says:

    Any further news?
CTC has already announced this ride to Kings Somborne but I’d prefer to cycle the SCC version. Is it going to Kings Somborne? Where/when is the start?

  9. dht says:

    Hi Nigel,
Information about the Brummel Bummel is now available on the Southampton Cycling Campaign website.

  10. reena says:

hi – the ride on the 15th meeting at cowheards – how long is it? Not sure if I can keep up as i am not very fast or experienced.

  11. dht says:

The ride leader is very experienced and the group will all cycle together, nobody will be left behind. The ride should be less than 15 miles. If you email Lindsi Bluemel ( then she will be able to give you more detailed information about the ride.

  12. Morny says:

When next the upcoming riding campaign is about to happen! Could you please let me know? I missed both the above mentioned dates to join in for cycle ride.

Although I’ve bike ride around MANOR FARM COUNTRY PARK before, but riding with campaigners is a great fun.

  13. Lyn Brayshaw says:
