Hampshire County Council: 3 year Right of Way Campaign needs your evidence.
A disputed path known as Fareham 3a that runs along the River Hamble for approximately 2.2 miles between Warsash and Swanwick has become the subject of Hampshire County Council’s most contested rights of way issue.
Now a long running campaign (3 years so far) to formally allow cyclists to use this route is at the stage where the presence or otherwise of any existing rights to cycle will be determined by Hampshire County Council’s Countryside Access Team.
Sylvia Seeliger, Map Review Officer, has requested that the campaign group Cyclists Along The Shore (CATS) submit any further evidence of cycle use of this path to her at the email address Sylvia.firstname.lastname@example.org
, so that it can be taken account of.

CATS spokesperson Mike Cummins, life long Warsash resident and applicant for change of use status to a restricted byway said “the council have received more evidence submission forms relating to this route than any other, but we still need more, as cyclists have been using it alongside walkers for generations and only 105 metres relating to one landowner at the Swanwick end are in dispute. This safe public leisure facility is too important for the cyclists of Hampshire to lose for the self serving interests of just one resident along the path”.
Many of you will be familiar with efforts to designate Fareham footpath 3a (the Hamble shore / Warsash path) as a restricted byway, therefore available to cyclists. We have covered the issue in articles here, here and here. Hampshire County Council has recently reported this will be investigated this as a priority because of the high level of interest and the relevance of this to their action plan.
